LINDSEY CORTER
IT STARTED WITH A SMILE
When I was young, I came across a poem called Smile by Barbara Hauck . It told the story of one simple smile setting off an entire chain of unexpected events. The idea stayed with me. Something incredibly small can matter far more than we ever know. I've carried some version of that thought with me ever since.
I've never really stayed in one creative lane. I've designed jewelry, remodeled homes, worked with glass, designed spaces, painted, built things, and probably started more projects at one time than any reasonable person should. But there's a common thread running through all of it. I SEE POSSIBILITY. I love finding something unexpected and imagining what else it could become. I love color, I love creating., and I've never been particularly interested in the idea that something has to be perfect to be beautiful.
That's exactly how Accidental Art happened.
The surfaces where I worked slowly collected the evidence of everything else I'd made — layers of paint, color, movement, marks and mistakes. They weren't supposed to be art. Then one day, I really stopped to look. There were compositions hiding everywhere... tiny moments within this enormous, constantly changing surface that existed once, exactly that way, and might never exist exactly that way again. So I started photographing them. I started saving them. Something that was never intended to become art became Accidental Art.
A simple smile. A forgotten surface. A little color left behind. I've learned not to underestimate small things. Sometimes all it takes is noticing them. Maybe that's why Live Laugh Art feels so natural to me.
Live — notice what's happening around you. Laugh — don't take perfection too seriously. Art — make something out of what you find.
It's not perfect. Neither is ART... and that's exactly what makes it interesting.
